Asbestos related illness on the rise

Today around 500,000 non-domestic buildings still contain the toxic material.

Although the use of asbestos has been banned in the UK since 1999, the dangers still remain and it is very important that employers and their workers keep themselves aware and protected from exposure.

Asbestos warning signs

It is estimated that this year alone the UK can expect an average of 4000 deaths due to the inhalation of the small fibres. Problems are usually not apparent until 15-40 years after initial exposure. Mesothelioma (a form of cancer) is the most fatal, usually giving sufferers’ only months to a couple of years to live after diagnosis.

Unfortunately it’s not just workers that are contracting these diseases. A number of workers wives and children have contracted Mesothelioma through the transfer of dust brought home on overalls.

Signs for Safety supply a number of asbestos warning signs to help maintain a safe environment and notify workers that they are entering a contaminated area. There are also a number of mandatory PPE and combination signs available to remind all workers to put their wellbeing first and use the safety equipment provided.
